2006 Security Watch - What is this year going to have in store for us?
There is a lot going on in the security information area. In this respect, 2006 seems to be an interesting year. Below are some stuff to watch for in 2006, some are excellent and some aren't, unfortunately.
The good news first:
- We take our security much more seriously. There are several factors for it. New privacy rules, for example, require firms to enhance their security. Look for more consumer privacy legislation adopted in the coming year and more security systems hardening.
- Requirements for authentication are growing. This closes in huge safety gaps. Companies need far more authentication to enter protected systems (this also is on the bad news side)
- There are a wealth of smart programs that assist us get safer and better. Competition in the security sector is high right now, inspiring a lot of innovation.
- The ISPs are now in charge of helping us with our safety. Take the news of AOL as a good omen that others are going to follow the trend.
The bad news now:
- It costs us to secure our networks. Most corporations globalize their organizations and save them a lot of money. Before it gets better, it will get worse.
- Requirements for authentication are growing. This becomes claustrophobic. Corporations need a lot more authentication to enter protected systems (this is also excellent news). Unfortunately, it is another matter for end-users, not unlike the airport security lines.
- The hackers are becoming more advanced. For instance, Botnets are growing increasingly complicated and difficult to catch and stop. Search the Internet for botnets. They cause a lot of difficulties, but it doesn't stop there. There is a tremendous quantity of viruses and malware out there.
- Spammers continue to discover more innovative ways to load out our email boxes. Don't look anytime soon for this tendency to stop.
